Injury Report

Corbin Carroll exited yesterdays game with a left knee injury. The speedy lefty banged it on the left field wall while attempting to make a play. He was able to walk off the field himself so hopefully he has avoided any serious injury. He needs to undergo further evaluation, so until then his availability is going to be up in the air.

Kenley Jansen was dealing with some back tightness in his outing yesterday. The Red Sox closer did not completely look like himself in what was his first blown save of the season. There was a mid inning check on him from the bench but he was able to finish the inning. The fact that he was able to continue to pitch is hopefully a sign it is nothing too serious. He will not be available to pitch tonight, hopefully he can avoid a trip to the IL

Aaron Judge is dealing with a mild strain of his right hip. The Yankees will be more cautious with their captain than any other player they have, so a trip to the IL is possible. For now he is just sitting out the weekend and will be reevaluated on Monday. The Yankees can not really afford to lose his bat right now so hopefully he will be feeling better after some rest.

Notable Performances

Nathan Eovaldi threw a complete game shutout against the Yankees giving up only 3 hits while striking out 8. The hard throwing righty had turned into one of Boston’s better pitchers and is looking to make the same impact in Texas, especially with Degrom now out. Eovaldi is 3-2 with a respectable 3.93 ERA and 39 K’s through 39.2 IP on the season.

Clayton Kershaw continues to make the case of being the best pitcher to ever take the mound. The timeless wonder threw 7 shutout innings striking out 9 on only 2 hits while the Dodgers held on for a 1-0 win over the Cardinals. The lefty is 5-1 this year (the same amount of wins as the Oakland A’s) with a 1.93 ERA with 41 K’s through 38 IP. As long as he can stay injury free, the future hall of famer continues to be a reliable fantasy option.

Matt Vierling went 3-4 with 2 2B’s and 4 RBI’s as he helped carry the Tigers over the Orioles 7-4. The 26 year old has been on fire hitting .455 with 3 2B’s and 4 RBI’s over the last 7 days. This is a pleasant change of pace for Vierling who has not found much success at the plate over his career. The bad news is he only had 6 HR’s and 32 RBI’s over his first full MLB season last year so there doesn’t look to be much more fantasy value to come.
