Injury Report

Luis Garcia was removed from his start yesterday against the Giants. Only a day after Urquidy went down, the Astros add Garcia to their list of injured arms. Garcia was feeling some elbow discomfort and was only able to throw 8 pitches because of it. Elbow discomfort is never a good injury to have, hopefully he will not require any kind of surgery and will be back quickly.

Ronald Acuña Jr. was hit with a pitch in the left shoulder yesterday. He exited the game but luckily the X-rays came back negative. It does not seem like he will require a trip the the IL but he may be on the bench for a few days recovering from the contusion.

Bryce Harper looks to come off of the injured list and rejoin the Phillies today after undergoing Tommy John surgery back in November of 2022. The slugging lefty will rejoin the team as a DH, but soon Harper will look to take over at 1st base and then eventually work his way back to the outfield. Harper is a must start in all leagues, when healthy he is a top 10 hitter in the game.

Notable Performances

Sean Murphy had a massive day at the plate going 2-4 with 2 HR’s and 6 RBI’s. The second of the two 3 run homers turned out to be a game winner as the Mets made a late game push to fall just short in the 9-8 loss. Murphy has put himself at the top of the catcher home run list with 8 so far this year to go along with 22 RBI’s. He has shown a bit of power production over the past two years with 17 and 18 home runs but fantasy owners could not have predicted such a strong start.

Mookie Betts helped lead the Dodgers over the Phillies going 3-5 with a HR and 3 RBI’s. The 6 time All Star had gotten off to a slow start at the plate so these last few games have been a welcome sign. Betts has proved himself as one of the more consistently high performing hitters in the league so it was only a matter of time before he started to pick it up. A welcomed surprise is the playing time he has gotten at shortstop. Last night was his 4th start there this year so he is well on his way to qualify for SS eligibility.

Bo Bichette went 5-5 with a homer and 3 RBI’s in the Blue Jays 6-5 loss to the Red Sox. The 25 year old has been exactly what fantasy owners expected this season hitting .344 with 7 HR’s and 21 RBI’s. The young shortstop continues to prove that he is one of the best hitters in the league. The more Bichette plays, the more you have to respect his game. Making a trade for him in keeper leagues would set you up with a roster building block for years to come.
