Injury Report

Drew Rasmussen has been placed on the 60-day IL with a flexor strain in his right elbow, only a day after throwing 7 shutout innings against the Yankees. Rasmussen has had a breakout year for the Rays and has been a very valuable piece of their rotation. Unfortunately, he will be out for at least two months and will hopefully return in August.

Nick Lodolo has been dealing with a calf injury that will likely send him to the IL. The Reds just sent him back to Cincinnati for some testing to be done, which is not a great sign. It seems as though the lefty has been dealing with this issue over his recent starts, and it may be part of the reason for his poor performances. More will be announced in the coming days, but Lodolo will miss at least one start.

Nico Hoerner was placed on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain. After missing a few games with the injury, the Cubs decided to move him to the injured list. There were hopes that he would be able to come back after a few games, but that was not the case. Hoerner should be able to spend the minimum amount of time away and will look to be back by the end of May.

Notable Performances

Anthony Rizzo went 2-4 with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI’s in the Yankees comeback 6-5 win over the Rays. Rizzo was the main catalyst behind the comeback with his first homer tying up the game in the 1st and the second being a go ahead 2 run blast in the 8th. The veteran first baseman has not disappointed so far this season hitting .301 with 8 HR’s and 20 RBI’s.

Cedric Mullins became the 2nd player this season to hit for the cycle as the Orioles beat the Pirates 6-3. He is on his way to outperform his monster 2021 season that led to him being named to his first career All Star game. The 28 year old provides a rare power and speed combo hitting .268 with 5 HR’s, 31 RBI’s and 12 SB’s so far on the year.

Chris Bassitt managed to outduel Spencer Strider which is a task few have been able to accomplish this year. Despite Strider striking out 12 and giving up 2 runs over 6.2 IP, Bassitt was even better throwing a complete game shutout while striking out 8 and giving up only 2 hits. The 34 year old has been sneaky good over the course of his career and he has done nothing different this year as he is 5-2 with a 3.49 ERA and 41 K’s through 49 IP.
