Injury Report
Luis Garcia was removed from his start yesterday against the Giants. Only a day after Urquidy went down, the Astros add Garcia to their list of injured arms. Garcia was feeling some elbow discomfort and was only able to throw 8 pitches because of it. Elbow discomfort is never a good injury to have, hopefully he will not require any kind of surgery and will be back quickly.
Ronald Acuña Jr. was hit with a pitch in the left shoulder yesterday. He exited the game but luckily the X-rays came back negative. It does not seem like he will require a trip the the IL but he may be on the bench for a few days recovering from the contusion.
Bryce Harper looks to come off of the injured list and rejoin the Phillies today after undergoing Tommy John surgery back in November of 2022. The slugging lefty will rejoin the team as a DH, but soon Harper will look to take over at 1st base and then eventually work his way back to the outfield. Harper is a must start in all leagues, when healthy he is a top 10 hitter in the game.
Notable Performances
Yordan Alvarez is arguably one of the best all around hitters in baseball and his performance last night backs this up. The slugger went 3-4 with 2 HR’s, one a grandslam, and 5 RBI’s in the Astros 12-2 win over the Brewers. After being named to his first All Star game last season, the 27 year old seems to be on pace for his second as he is hitting .305 on the year with 12 HR’s and 46 RBI’s. Fantasy managers have to be delighted with his performance and can expect the same moving forward.
Tucupita Marcano was 2-3 with a HR, which was his first career grand slam, 4 RBI’s and added a walk in the Pirates 6-4 win over the Rangers. This was the 27 year olds best performance on the year as he had been quiet at the plate throughout not only the year but his entire career. Hitting .268 on the season with 2 HR’s and 9 RBI’s, the shortstop has already tied his HR total from last season and is well on his way to breaking his RBI total.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. extended his hit streak to 15 games going a perfect 4-4 with a HR and 2 RBI’s in the Diamondbacks 6-3 win over the Phillies. The 29 year old has been productive in his first season in Arizona. He has a .321 batting average with 8 HR’s and 27 RBI’s. The hitting streak has led to him having a fantastic May and fantasy managers hope he can carry the hot bat into June.
