Don't get caught in a pickle- make sure you set your fantasy baseball lineup before game time!

Prospect Radar

Francisco Álvarez: The #3 prospect in baseball will be starting the season in AAA for the Mets. He debuted last year but an off-season ankle surgery has caused him to go through rehab. This, along with the fact that the Mets want him to improve his defense have kept him in the minors to start the season. As long as he stays healthy you will see him up in the bigs sometime this season.

Andrew Painter: The Phillies stud is going to be starting the year in AAA. He was sensational last year as he won the MLB Pipeline Pitcher Honors of the Year. The #6 overall prospect may have been able to break camp if it wasn't for a sprained UCL in his right elbow. However, when he gets back into action it should not be long until he finds himself on the MLB roster.

Grayson Rodriguez: The Orioles #2 prospect was not able to crack the opening day roster. After not making it to the big leagues last year due to a grade 2 lat strain at the end of the year, Rodriguez will wait just a little bit longer to get his shot. He struggled this spring and will start the season in AAA where he hopes to get his pitch mix back on track. This shouldn't take long as he and the Orioles are both eager to see what he can do for the club.

Eury Pérez: Another Marlins prized pitching prospect. At only 19 years old, Pérez has dominated AA and has continued to show off his fantastic athleticism and talent. At 6'8" he is a monster on the mound, using a great 4 pitch mix which includes plus off speed pitches and a fastball touching triple digits. The Marlins top prospect will be starting in AA and will hopefully make his way up into the majors at some point after his 20th birthday at the beginning of July.

Notable Performances

Kyle Freeland: The lefty threw 6 shutout innings with 1 K while only giving up 3 hits against a dangerous Padres lineup. The 29 year old has been an averageish starting pitcher over his 6 year career, having a 4.00+ ERA in 5/6 of those seasons. This is an encouraging start but what's worth most keeping an eye on is his strikeout numbers. Even when he pitches effectively he doesn't strike out many, hindering his fantasy output.

Charlie Blackmon: The 12 year veteran is off to a blazing start in his first two games of 2023 hitting .556 with 5 hits, one of them being a HR. While he has struggled the last two seasons, Blackmon used to be a feared presence in the Rockies lineup. Those who took a chance on him are hopeful he can continue his tear at the plate.

Steven Kwan: Going 2-4 with 5 RBIs, Kwan helped lead the Guardians to a 9-4 victory over the Mariners. While Seattle starter Robbie Ray struggled mightily with his command, walking 5 in 3.1 IP, Kwan broke the game open with a go ahead 2 run double in the 4th inning. Later adding an RBI single to help extend the lead. The OF had a successful rookie campaign in which he hit .298 with 19 SBs, good enough to get him 3rd in ROY voting.
